Local News | @seattletimes and the social media Wave during Lakewood cop shooting | Seattle Times Newspaper.

A wonderful experiment in citizen journalism/traditional journalism convergence happened on Monday November 30th here in Seattle. The story linked here is a local Times reporter’s take on why and how this social media/web 2.0 happening went down.

Some negative, some positive reactions all in all but I thought it was a courageous experiment in using new tech/software/cloud in order to both inform the public and solicit their assistance as well. I do agree; it needs moderation in some form, but that’s what editors do. Let’s get them involved in the process. If it’s going to work as well as it can, maybe an exclusive electronic/media editor is needed to work on this kind of fast-breaking story.

Hope to see more of these experiments in the future!
