Global Warming: Peak Oil as Soon as 2014

by Alex on March 17, 2010

This is one of the more actually optimistic blog articles I’ve come across recently re: “peak oil” and it is encouraging.

This item is important mostly because it is coming out of Kuwait who is central to OPEC and is not known for peak oil enthusiasm. Any models available to date put the peak back in 2008 and the present reality has been flat with a lot of adjustment going on.

This is what John Chambers of Cisco Systems had to say in Business Week. He is so right. Why are we so far behind? 17th in the world?

Here is what we do know: We are only as strong as the systems and infrastructure we have. A world that used to be defined by who ruled the High Seas is now defined by who delivers the best network connections. The FCC has shown leadership by pointing us in a direction. Now it’s time for the rest of us to build the systems that are vital to the economic and social future of every nation.

Wave vs Buzz; what do you think?

Google Wave’s:

Rasmussen confirmed that while the projects are separate, Google employees have been using Buzz internally for months, including his team. Asked to explain the difference between the two products, he said Wave is designed around making users more productive in their work lives as a collaboration tool, while Buzz is more about “social sharing and passive sharing with people who are interested in what you think.”

Why do I spend some much energy on this kind of stuff? I.E.; social media, blogs, feedreaders, etc.? Maybe this is a partial explanation.

Clay Shirky believes we’re biased both to share and to like sharing digital information. Given the rate at which we create, share, and then discard digital goods, he may be right. The problem is that we’re now wading through digital debris, and there may be hard costs associated with our wastefulness.

Of course it’s no more wasteful than TV.
